Herbs, alpines and succulents rot in soggy compost — they've evolved for lean, free-draining ground and sulk anywhere else. RocketGro Herb & Alpine Compost is built around that need, a refined blend with up to 15% Cornish grit added to their Multi-Purpose with John Innes base.

The result is an ideal free-draining mix, trialled across dozens of herb, alpine, succulent and perennial varieties, with added organic fertiliser giving a three-month feed. Use in containers and pots with good drainage holes, or dig into beds, borders and rockeries — water regularly but lightly, since these plants would rather dry out slightly than sit wet.
