Unwins Pea Douce Provence
Unwins Pea Douce Provence is a low-maintenance, high-yielding variety producing an abundance of succulent, exceptionally sweet peas that are lovely in summer soups, risottos and salads. Compact and self-supporting, it needs minimal staking and is versatile enough to sow for an early or main crop — or even overwinter for an extra-early start. Sow direct outdoors from March to May, or October to November, in a flat-bottomed drill, spacing seeds 7.5cm apart in a zigzag pattern with 60cm between rows, protecting emerging shoots from birds with a few twigs. Keep well watered around the base and pick pods regularly for a harvest running from June through July.
