Unwins Pea Hurst Greenshaft

Hurst Greenshaft is a reliable maincrop pea with an excellent reputation, carrying up to 10 exceptionally sweet peas per pod on disease-resistant plants. It's quick to grow and versatile in the kitchen — delicious raw straight off the plant, dropped into soups and risottos, or simply tossed in butter as a side. Sow outdoors March to May in a zigzag row, and support the plants with netting or pea sticks as they climb to their full 60cm height. Cover emerging shoots with a few twigs to protect them from birds, keep the soil around the base consistently moist without wetting the leaves, and pick pods regularly from June through July to keep the plants productive.
