Unwins Broad Bean Bunyards Exhibition

Bunyards Exhibition is a real heritage variety, introduced over a hundred years ago and still one of the most reliable broad beans around. Long pods carry 8-9 white beans apiece, with genuinely delicious flavour and texture whether eaten fresh or frozen for later. It's unusually versatile on timing too, doing equally well from an autumn or spring sowing, so you can spread your harvest or aim for an early crop the following year. Sow outdoors in double rows spaced 60cm apart, and support the plants as they grow — this variety needs it. Pinch out the growing tips once in full flower to help keep blackfly away, and keep the plants well watered as pods start to fill for the best results.
